The Knickerbocker Theatre at 51 will host a special screening of the French animated film “The Most Precious of Cargoes” (La Plus Précieuse des marchandises) on Wednesday, Nov. 13 and Thursday, Nov. 14, at 7:00 p.m.
Directed by Michel Hazanavicius, the Oscar-winning filmmaker of “The Artist,” and based on Jean-Claude Grumberg’s acclaimed 2019 novel, is a powerful animated fable about love, hope, and humanity in the midst of war. The film features narration by the late Jean-Louis Trintignant in his final role.
During a war that plagues everything around, a lumberjack’s wife finds a baby girl, thrown from one of the many trains that run through the woods. This meeting transforms the lives of the couple and those whose destinies become forever intertwined with that of the child.
The film combines stunning animation and deeply human storytelling to illuminate the resilience of love and compassion amid the darkness of conflict.
After premiering in competition for the Palme d’Or at the 77th Cannes Film Festival and opening the 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, the film has been celebrated for its emotional power and visual artistry.
